The EL Instructional Assistant (PSA) will provide support to students needing assistance with Engish as a second language. This includes helping students with English concepts and skills and especially in their acquisition to function and learn meaningfully in general education classes.
Responsibilities Under the Direction of a Supervising Teacher:
- Serve as an EL support for mainstream/general education teachers in courses with EL students as assigned. This includes becoming familiar with the content and requirements of the courses and assisting in planning/supporting best EL instructional practices.
- Provide instructional assistance and motivate students in the areas of math, reading, language arts, science and social studies and other areas as needed.
- Assist in modificaitons in assignments and curriculum as directed and to support students.
- Promotes good study habits and student independence.
- Communicates with teachers and other disrict personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and adjusting instructional needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Responsible to: Supervising Teacher, Building Principal and Special Services Administrators
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of post-secondary education (60 semester college credits) OR documentation of a passing score on the Minnesota Para Pro Test.
- Ability to follow program direction as provided by teachers and administration.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds weight
- Ability to communicate with diverse groups and adapt to changing work priorities.
- Ability to perform basic or routine computer functions, uncluding the use of email, Microsoft Word, Google Suites and internet navigation.
- Ability to demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with, and supporting, students that have language learning needs
- Successful work experience as a member of a team
